Street Intervention (Group)

TASK:

-As a group, you are assigned to a site in KL (e.g Masjid Jamek, Pasar Seni etc) and therefore, you are to conduct a site study where an investigation is carried out through site observation. You are then to prepare a site inventory (data collection) and evaluation of the site and street.

-From the chosen site, u need to select a street (choose secondary road) (100m-200m distance) to conduct your site investigation. You need select 2 options and to discuss with your lecturer during tutorial session before going to the site. Your street selection must be based on these criteria:

a) The street must have a unique characteristic/value/issue/sense of place

b) A street with a potential of improvement

-My group was assign to Pasar Seni, Jalan Hang Kasturi

-You are to take a train to your site through KL’s rail transit network. The street chosen should have nearby access to the train station.  

-You need to capture the tangible and intangible built elements in your site through photograph, interview, video recording etc.

-You need to be critical when conducting your site study. 

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENT :​

1) PRESENTATION BOARD (4 – 6pcs of A1 SIZE) Use a standard street plan/illustration to discuss about your findings

PART A - MACRO STUDY - INTRODUCTION a) A brief intro about your site, background and history timeline b) Key plan and location plan of your site, sun path etc c) Accessibility to site, landmarks or focal point or significance components/elements d) Site zoning (100-200 m radius)

PART B - MICRO STUDY -TANGIBLE AND INTANGIBLE ELEMENTS/COMPONENTS

You are to show/extract location of your street describe and analyse to following: a) Distance + time between 2 places, crowd density b) Street Context & surroundings c) Zoning/ building typology, function or type of space , d) Accessibility, Street road circulation, traffic,e) Pedestrian walkway, parking lotsf) Physical characteristics of the area, façade study,  g) Public facilities and amenities h) Natural features/elements i) Activities, social, business, culture + sensory of place , safety and security k) special/unique features at the street

PART C - SWOT STUDY a) (strength, weakness, opportunity and threat) PART D – IDEA PROPOSAL - STREET INTERVENTION  Create a theme upon your intervention based on your SWOT study â€‹

2. 2D POP UP STREET MODEL An approximately A2 size base pop up street model to reflect the intervention and the significant content in presentation board.
